We are thrilled to announce our first slate of endorsed School Board candidates: grassroots leaders committed to well-funded, well-resourced, and equitable public schools.
Dr. Sacha Sharp
At-Large
With three kids who attend IPS and a background in education, Sacha Sharp is committed to a sustainable and successful school district where all children, regardless of background or zip code, can thrive. Sacha understands that public schools are an essential part of strong communities, and they require community support to work efficiently. She knows coalition building and strategic thinking will be important as we work together to guarantee our children receive the best education. Sacha has the experiences and skills rooted in areas that support students, teachers, and parents. With the purpose of making the district more equitable, accessible, and safe while improving transparency, Sacha Sharp is running for IPS School Board, At-Large.
Dr. Bryan Duarte
District 2
A product of public schools and a teacher for nearly 20 years across traditional, magnet, innovation, and charter classrooms, Dr. Bryan Duarte has spent his career in education. The son of Portuguese immigrants, he went on to earn his PhD and now trains school leaders as a university professor while studying the impact of school choice policies on under-resourced communities. Dr. Duarte is running for school board to ensure IPS stops diverting resources away from the neighborhoods that need them most. Rather than funding new schools while existing ones struggle, he wants every local school to be a place families proudly choose. Having faced bullying as a student himself, he is equally driven to make sure every IPS classroom offers a safe, supportive environment where students can thrive.
Daqavise Winston
District 3
Daqavise Winston is an educator and community leader running for the Indianapolis Public Schools Board of Commissioners in District 3. He believes every student deserves a high quality public education and that students should be at the center of every decision. As an educator, Daqavise brings a perspective grounded in the classroom and a commitment to improving literacy and student achievement, supporting educators, listening to families, and making responsible decisions about the future of IPS.
Lindsey Cornett
District 4 write-in
Lindsey Cornett is an IPS mom of three and former public school teacher who believes that public schools are a public good, essential to the flourishing of our city. The Cornetts have been an IPS family since moving to Indy in 2019. Like many of you, they have navigated enrollment, special education, COVID, Rebuilding Stronger, and the ILEA/IPEC transition. Lindsey understands that IPS families are tired of constant transition and upheaval, and believes our city deserves a stable, well-funded, high-quality district that meets the needs of every Indy student. As an educator, writer, and nonprofit professional, Lindsey brings expertise, strong communication skills, and a deep love for Indianapolis to this work. District 4 voters can trust Lindsey to communicate openly and honestly, to advocate on behalf of our most vulnerable students, and to always operate with integrity.
Dr. Nicole Carey
District 5
Dr. Nicole Carey is running for re-election to the IPS Board of School Commissioners, representing District 5. As the mom of five, she knows firsthand what it means to want the best for your kids, and she brings that same care to her work on the Board. Currently serving as Vice President, Dr. Carey has helped lead the Board’s strategic planning efforts and is passionate about making sure every IPS family feels heard. Looking ahead, she’s focused on strengthening stability across the district, ensuring every student has an amazing school experience, and maintaining democratic community voice in public education. She’d be honored to continue serving District 5 for another term.
